Student João Victor Starlino Neves, a member of the Interdisciplinary Malaria Studies Group (GEIM), was highlighted academically at the XXXIV Scientific Initiation Week with the work "Antigenic optimization of peptides derived from PvMSP-1 for serological detection of Plasmodium vivax".

The research focuses on the selection and optimization of peptides from the PvMSP-1 (Merozoite Surface Protein-1) protein to enhance the performance of serological assays, contributing to the detection of exposure to P. vivax. By integrating epitope mapping, in silico predictions, and experimental validation (such as immunoenzymatic tests), the study seeks to increase the sensitivity and specificity of the tests, support serological surveys, and assist in the monitoring of endemic areas.

With this achievement, João Victor and GEIM reaffirm their commitment to scientific excellence and translational innovation, bringing basic research closer to public health needs.
